Heading East

Reviewing our options this morning, we realized that we did not have time to do both Glacier National Park and Yellowstone / Grand Teton. After much deliberation and some last minute decisions at the side of the highway, we decided that Glacier would have to be put aside for some future trip. So we headed southeasterly out of Twisp WA towards Spokane; along the way, we stopped at the Grand Coulee Dam. The dam itself is a very impressive fete of engineering from the WPA days of the 1930's; the visitor center exhibit was just as interesting.
As you can see in the next picture, parts of the road towards Spokane were quite the opposite of the our prior days:

By the way, Spokane is the home of Gonzaga University (was that the '98 or '99 NCAA basketball championship?); Bing Crosby attended Gonzaga and was in fact awarded an honorary doctorate from there in 1937, according to the AAA guide.

We didn't mean to imply that they won, but seem to remember that it was the late 90's that they got on the radar screen.
