North Cascades

Saturday we switched direction and started our trek back eastward towards home. From Everett WA we drove up to Burlington and turned right onto route 20 through North Cascades National Park. Every day out-does the previous in terms of scenery --- but we’re sure we’d think the same even if we did the same trip in reverse. The views we saw today seemed to be the stuff of every jigsaw puzzle I’ve ever worked on – snow capped mountains, meadows, water falls, lakes, and blue sky.

Towards the end of our day, we happened on the town of Winthrop WA. Winthrop arose in the mining days of the 1890’s; the old wooden sidewalks and buildings have been preserved since that day, now housing gift shops, brew pubs, and espresso bars.
