So little time, so much to tell

We left Amarillo Thursday morning and headed west on I-40 again. Points of interest along the way (see pictures) were:
1. Cadillac Ranch - just west of Amarillo
2. Tucancari (sp?), NM - part of the old Route 66

We pulled into a campground just 5 miles away from Santa Fe late Thursday afternoon and I immediately fell in love with the area. I took Gracie for a short walk and by the time I got back, I had it all figured out how we could spend a month or 6 weeks here every year once I retire (whenever THAT happens). Small world - the managers of this park are from Burlington, VT and spend 2 months here every year (hmmmm....). Another small world story - a couple from Goshen NY who camped next to us at the Sallistal Oklahoma KOA on Tuesday night are our next door neighbors here!

Santa Fe is lovely - I say this despite the challenges we had of driving a 30-foot RV through rush hour traffic! The center of town could be anywhere in Mexico or Spain for that matter. Today we took a day trip to Taos; along the way we followed the Rio Grande.

The weather continues to be great (80's here during the day, 50's overnight) and we've only had to pay over $3 per gallon of gas once. Mileage still averages about 9 MPG.

P.S. I keep forgetting to mention this. Last Friday, as we drove down the hill from our house, we had a tribute from the U.S. Marines. Major "Mac" was standing in front of his house, obviously having waited for some time, in fatigues and in full salute as we left the neighborhood. For those of you back home, make sure you tell Mac that we very much appreciate his send off!
