Williamsburg
We spent the day touring Colonial Williamsburg - in existence today largely to the contributions of John D. Rockefeller, Jr in the late 20's/early 30's. The tour guides are extremely well-versed in colonial history and helped us to better understand the events leading up to the revolution.
For those who have never been but are planning a visit, we recommend: (1) The 40 minute intro movie at the Visitor Center, (2) The Governor's Palace and (3) The Capitol Building. Not much more to say; here are some pictures of the park.
(By the way, the City of Williamsburg has quite the network of shuttle buses - we were able to get one right from our campground. )
